Walter "Jake" Downey

Walter "Jake" Downey, 76, passed away Saturday, November 1, 2025. He was born April 1, 1949 to Henry and Delores (McGrae) Downey in Stratton, CO.

Jake served a total of 27 years in the United States Air Force, spending 14 years on active duty before transitioning to the Air National Guard, where he retired as a Chief Master Sergeant while also serving in Civil Service. He completed two tours in Vietnam during his active duty. A retired farmer, Jake had a deep love for tractors and the simple satisfaction of working the land.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Bonnie Downey.

Jake is survived by his wife Jenny; his family members and many friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warriors Project or donations to the family.

Memorial graveside service: 10:00 A.M. on Monday, November 10, 2025  at Dunlap Cemetery outside Rose Hill, KS.
