Sue Creegan

February 5, 1947 — September 8, 2025

Wichita, Kansas

Sue Creegan, 78, of Wichita, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, September 8, 2025, at 3:53 p.m., surrounded by love.

Sue, my mom, spent her career helping others through SRS (Social and Rehabilitation Services), now the Department for Children and Families. She began as a phone operator and, through her determination and love for helping others, she was promoted to case management. She devoted herself to the families she served, eventually being honored as Employee of the Year. After evolving into a trainer for case managers, she moved on to what she considered her proudest accomplishment: Project Access at Wichita’s first completely free medical clinic, Guadalupe Clinic. She was chosen from candidates across Kansas to manage patient caseloads where she played an integral role that has been vital in the continued success of the program to this day.

But my mom was so much more than her work. She was the matriarch of our family, the one we all leaned on—for advice, for a laugh, or simply to feel heard. She was my rock, my favorite person, and my best friend. She had a gift for making everyone feel cared for, and she loved her family fiercely and unconditionally. With her mix of sharp wit, humor, encouragement, and wisdom (including the occasional, "I told you so, you should listen to your mother/GMA as she knows best!"), she made the impossible seem manageable. I know that if she was here with us now, she would know exactly what to say to help us navigate the unfillable void that her absence has left behind.

She is survived by her children, Julie (Thane) Nelson and Jenny (Dave) Siggins; grandchildren, Grant Nelson, Jacob Siggins, and Ethan Siggins; great-grandchildren, Peislyn and Brent; her “favorite two men,” brother-in-law Ken Creegan and Monty Buchanan (and their little dog, Daisy); niece Lisa (John) Tryon; and sister Cile Bradley.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, and brother. Their reunion was one for the books, without a doubt. I’d be remiss not to mention her four ‘daughters in fur,’ who brought her endless joy and—along with so many others—have been eagerly waiting to welcome her home.

Though our hearts are broken, we will carry her spirit with us always.

Mom. We. Love. You!!

A gathering to laugh & swap stories (or if you're me, probably cry)

We will celebrate Sue on Saturday September 20th.
