Michael Jess Lawrie

Nov 15, 1958 — Jun 20, 2026

Wichita, Kansas

Michael Jess Lawrie, age 67, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away unexpectedly in his sleep during the early morning hours of June 20, 2026, in Wichita, Kansas.

Mike was the kind of person who made life feel a little lighter for everyone around him. He had a rare gift for knowing what truly mattered: family, laughter, and time spent together. His patience and kindness put people at ease instantly. He never rushed to judge, always took the time to listen, and never met a stranger. After spending even a few minutes with him, most people felt as though they had known him their whole lives.

A master of his craft, Mike successfully owned and operated his own business for nearly four decades. He painted countless homes and loved pointing them out whenever you drove by—always remembering the builder, the year he worked on them, and often a story to go along with each one. He loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing, never turned down a game of cards or cornhole, and could often be found relaxing with a cup of coffee, watching the History Channel, and appreciating life's simple pleasures. Mike also had a gift for storytelling and could turn even the most ordinary moment into a tale worth telling. He especially loved sharing stories from his childhood, many of which involved more than a little hell-raising with his siblings and left everyone laughing.

Carol was the love of Mike’s life. They met at a young age and fell in love quickly, getting married within a year of meeting. They built a beautiful life together, raised four wonderful daughters, and shared 44 years of marriage. They loved going to the lake, visiting the casino, and, most of all, spending time with the family they loved so much. Rarely seen apart, they were true companions who did everything together.

He was a proud father and the kind of grandfather every kid hopes for. Whether he was taking them fishing, cheering them on from the sidelines, or hosting sleepovers filled with laughter, questionable movie choices, and lessons in card games that may or may not have involved a little gambling, he treasured every opportunity to spend time with his grandkids. They were the joy of his life.

More than anything, Mike will be remembered for the life he built around the people he loved. He was the steady hand, the voice of reason, the source of laughter, and the heart of his family. He taught those around him that life is meant to be enjoyed, that time together is life's greatest gift, and that love is found in the little moments shared every day.
