Malisa Mekha Vongtheva

November 26, 1942 — October 13, 2020

Malisa Mekha Vongtheva, 77, passed away Tuesday, October 13, 2020. She was born November 26, 1942 to Champa and Chouancheng (Sithideth) Keomuongchanh in Khammouane, Laos.

She worked as a Postmaster for the Laotian Postal Service from 1976 to 1981 when she left Laos. Malisa spent several years in a refuge camp in Thailand and the Philippines before immigrating to America. Malisa arrived in Amarillo, TX in November of 1984. She moved her family to Wichita, KS in April of 1985. In 1986, she started working as a meat packer at IBP Inc. in Emporia, KS where she raised her children. Malisa retired in 2008 and moved to El Dorado in 2014 where she lived with her daughter.

She loved to cook, but hated the following cleanup. Malisa enjoyed watching sports with her family. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. Malisa was an avid card and laststop player, especially when there was money on the game. She loved to dance and attend parties when she was younger and was always the life of the party.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kevin Khoun Vongtheva; son, Vatthana Vongtheva; brothers, Oupeka Keomuongchanh, Vongdara Keomuongchanh, and Orothchana Keomuongchanh; and sister, Inthava Keomuongchanh.

Malisa is survived by her children, Sommala (Keodavong) Souvannaraj, Vorada (Seng) Vongtheva, Phothisa (Joanne) Vongtheva, Montana Vongtheva, Bon Vongtheva, and Panitha (Joseph) Nobert; 2 granddaughters; 9 grandsons; and siblings, Prathana Keomuongchanh and Keophila Keomuongchanh.

A private Traditional Buddhist Service will take place at Reflection Pointe Funeral & Cremation Services, 3201 S. Webb Rd., Wichita, KS 67210.
