Henryetta “Alfreda” Achenbach died December 14, 2010 in Wichita, Kansas. Born in Manon, PA in 1911 to Alex and Zelda Seeger, she grew up moving from state-to-state during the Depression. She married Aymer Achenbach in August 1931. He preceded her in death in 1970. Alfreda was a homemaker, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. After her three daughters finished school, she began a career as a cook for a girls home, Walls Grocery Store, the Wichita Art Museum and the Café Cork & Canape. She “retired” at age 90. She was a dedicated Girl Scout leader and loved camping. She had a particular love for birds and all animals. Traveling, visiting family, reading, and cooking were her favorite activities. Alfreda had a very sharp mind and was an excellent historian till the end of her life. She was preceded in death by her husband Aymer, sister Elsa “Mickey” Chapman, and brother Dumars “Duke” Seeger and her parents. She is survived by daughters Dolores (Vernon) Miller of Wichita, KS; Annette (Stephen) Cade of Montana City, MT; and Pamela (Larry) Ellingson of Wichita, KS; sister Pauline (Merlan) Ward; grandchildren Brent (Becky) Miller of Wichita, KS; Shellie (Brian) Regehr of Iola, KS; Aaron (Mary) Cade of Montana City, MT; Ethan (Jennifer) of Bozeman, MT; and Jordan (Dana) Cade of Helena, MT and 10 great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Kansas Humane Society, 3313 N. Hillside, Wichita, KS 67219. Visitation with family present will be 5 – 7 p.m. Friday, December 17, 2010 at Watson Reflection Pointe, 3201 S. Webb Rd., Wichita, KS. Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, December 18, 2010 at Hardtner Kansas Cemetery.
