Richard W. Higgs, of Mulvane, 86, passed away Thursday, March 17, 2016. He was born January 11, 1930 to Benjamin and Lois (Shelton) Higgs in Wichita, KS. Richard retired from Boeing after a long career in the aircraft industry. He was a Navy Veteran. Richard loved spending time outdoors, flying, fishing, hunting, and canoeing. He enjoyed reading, listening to jazz, and spending time with his family. Richard was a Boy Scout leader and an active member at the Mulvane First Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 45 years, Lorene; daughter, Gehren Jimenez; and sisters, Marilyn Black, Judy Young, and Benita Petersen. Richard is survived by his children, Leigh Higgs of Mulvane, KS, Ben (Bridget) Higgs of Benton, AR, and Bradford (Mary) Higgs of Westmoreland, KS; grandchildren, Heather Higgs, Brooke (Brent) Meister, Benjamin Higgs, Brittany McBride, and Courtney Huntington; 3 great-grandchildren; sisters, Norma Shoemaker and Janet Klecker; and a large extended family. Memorial Service: 11 am, Saturday, March 26, 2016 at First Baptist Church, 1020 N. 2nd Ave., Mulvane, KS. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to KSDS Assistance Dogs Inc., 120 W. 7th St., Washington, KS 66968 or Gideons International, P.O. Box 140800, Nashville, TN 37214.
