Sidney C. Smith

Smith, Sidney C., of Erie, KS, former Wichitan, went to be with the Lord on September 6, 2013. He was born on December 17, 1923, in South Mound, KS. After graduating from Erie High School, he served with the U. S. Army Air Corps in England during World War II. He retired from Boeing after a long carer in the aerospace industry. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Hand Smith, who died July 4, 1961. They are survived by their daughters, Donna (Ian) Grindlay, of Rose Hill and Susan Smith of Wichita, granddaughter, Janelle (Spencer) Dean, great-grandsons Michael, Christopher and Nathan. He is also survived by sister, Rosaleen Fouts, brother, Paul (Emma) Smith, sister-in-law, Helen Smith, numerous nieces and nephews and beloved step-children through step great-grandchildren. Parents Paul and Hoster Smith, brother Jack Smith and sister Celia Flener all preceded him in death. Sidney is especially mourned by Treva Sexton Smith, treasured wife and companion since their marriage on March 4, 2000. Treva lit the way to heaven for Sidney during his final years. His life was blessed by music. In addition to playing the guitar and singing most of his life, after retirement he composed over twenty songs, both country western and Christian music. He was always in demand for performances and loved to share his music. Graveside services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, at Resthaven. A Memorial Service will be from 6-8 PM Friday, September 13, at First Baptist Church, Erie, KS. Share memories of Sidney at watsonfuneral.com
